Family Vacation

We've just returned from our first family vacation! The weather was beautiful, the ride wasn't TOO long, and J got to see the ocean and play in the sand. It was PERFECT. The ride down was about 14 hours- including stops. We stopped halfway for the night on the way down. When we woke up we drove the rest of the way to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We rented a house with 3 other families for the week. In total, 10 kids and 7 adults. The house was HUGE and was a short walk from the ocean. The ocean water was too cold to swim in, but our private pool and hot tub more than made up for it.

Although the initial weather forecast was for 60-degree days and thunderstorms, we never saw a drop of rain- and it was 80 degrees one day! Only our last day did the temperatures drop below 70.We spent plenty of time on the beach, but also went shelling at the point, climbed the Cape Hattaras lighthouse, took a trip to Ocrocoke Island, and went fishing. The only minor hiccup in the vacation was a short trip to the island's clinic. Somehow J managed to get a tick attached to his back. It looked more like a crab than the deer ticks we have in Upstate NY, but it was still a tick. Luckily the Dr. got it out easily and there is no known Lyme Disease in the Carolinas. Before long we were back at the house and enjoying our final day with the families in our beach house.
