Well, we're back from Watkins Glen State Park and we've survived another year of camping. It was easier than last year (after last year I threatened to sell all of our camping supplies on Craigslist), and the kids still loved it.
As for the parents... well, we survived. The sleeping was easier since we contained K to her pack n' play. But it was also brutally hot in the afternoons without any shade over our tent. An electric campsite where we could have plugged in a fan would have been nice. But you really can't complain when you have three days of beautiful weather without rain.
The kids played well together, when they weren't competing and one up-ing each other.
And our hike up the gorge was filled with beautiful falls and rushing water. One child was more inclined to hike than the other, and K even climbed most of 195 steps of "Jacob's Ladder" on her own.
... the non-hiker spent a lot of time in daddy's arms avoiding water falls and mud puddles.
It wasn't all walking up hill. There was a huge pool inside the park- and it was free! And it had three springboards! Apparently insurance for diving boards isn't hard to come by when you're the State of NY.
There was a lot of kicking back and relaxing too. Here's grandpa in his special chair. His naps in the afternoon earned him the nickname "North American Snore Bird."
And then there were the trouble makers in our party. Some people are born "morning people." Others are "night owls." When the night owls stay up talking and drinking until 2am, and the morning people are fond of singing songs at 7am, there are bound to be tensions.
Round 1 went to the morning people. More to come soon...
