I've never been to the Lilac Festival in Rochester. And based on the traffic/crowds/always rainy weather, I'm not sure I ever will. But I do like Highland Park in the springtime when the lilacs, magnolias and peonies are in bloom.
Since the festival starts this weekend, we took the opportunity to see the park last weekend.
J nearly had a panic attack when we arrived. "I don't see a playground!" he complained. We tried to explain that it was a tree park, and we were here to smell the flowers. That didn't go over too well. Luckily there is a kids playground in the park.
After 10 minutes on the playground the kids were ready to continue our walk.
There were other things to play on and around. A tree with a giant hole cut into it, trees with drooping branches that made perfect hiding places, and gently sloping hills to roll down.
It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying the flowers.
And since the kids were so good...
We stopped for icecream along the canal.
Mommy enjoyed it too!
